Some animals are in danger because people want to wear their fur. Others, like elephants, are killed for their tusks which become necklaces and decorations. But a lot of animals are in danger because man is destroying the environment — cutting down trees, building roads and houses or polluting the places where these animals live. As far as books and computers are concerned, I can say with confidence that computers will never replace books. First, because they fulfil different functions. It's true that both books and computers hold information. But one computer is worth the whole library. So perhaps, computers will replace reference books because it's quicker and easier to find the necessary information on a computer than in reference books. It is much more difficult to pinpoint the dominant approach in modern visual art in today's America. In part this is because art has changed, in part because America and the rest of the world have changed as well. However, there are some tendencies that American visual art is following. They are best understood by looking at individual artists who exemplify them. The Internet was invented by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency in the late 1960s. In 1969, there was a network of just four mainframe computers. A mainframe computer is a large, powerful computer which is shared by many users. The idea of the electronic mailbox was born when users looked for a way to talk to each other electronically. By 1984, the Internet had begun to develop into the form we know today. A fax machine is a very convenient aid to contact companies and friends because messages are transmitted immediately. Fax machines work like photocopiers. They make a copy of a document and then send it down a telephone line to another fax machine. This way they can send and receive information from each other.
