  • First thing you need to do is to read the titles very carefully and translate them. Try to keep them in mind while doing the task.
  • You don't need to read all the texts very carefully. Your aim is to understand the main idea.
  • Most often key information can be found in the very first and last sentences of the texts.
  • The heading must be the one that best covers the main topic, so you need to make sure that the heading you have chosen fits the meaning of the whole mini text, and doesn't just simply use some of the same words.
  • Very often you will not find the same words in the texts and titles, so pay attention to synonyms.
  • If necessary, highlight the keywords in the texts.
  • Remember! There is one extra title that you do not use.

A. Silicon Valley is a world-famous high-tech hub in Northern California that is home to many high-tech corporations. Its name comes from the name of silicon, a grey chemical element found in rocks and sand. This element is used in making computers and other electronic machines. It was with this industry that the history of the technological centre began. For the first time, this name was used in 1971 by journalist Don Hefler.

B. The Skolkovo Innovation Center is a high-tech hub near Moscow, Russia. It is sometimes referred to as Russian Silicon Valley. Skolkovo includes five priority sectors specialising in different areas such as IT, Energy, Nuclear Technologies, Space Technologies and Biomedicine. In Skolkovo, there is a great technopark. The name Skolkovo also refers to a private business school in the Moscow region and a private research university.

C. Innopolis is a technology park in the Republic of Tatarstan. It is a real urban settlement for IT specialists. You can see this settlement on the map of Russia. The plan of the town was designed by the famous Singapore architect and the master planner of Singapore Liu Thai Ker. The layout of Singapore has become the standard of the modern organisation of urban space. So, Innopolis features the best traits of modern city planning concepts.

D. Silicon Docks is a nickname for the area around Grand Canal Dock in Dublin, Ireland. One can easily guess the nickname is a reference to Silicon Valley. Being a mixture of nationalities, Dublin is popular with multinational companies. Here you can find the European headquarters of many prominent high-tech companies such as Microsoft, Google, LinkedIn, TripAdvisor, Airbnb, PayPal, Pinterest and others. Dublin is also seen as one of the best cities for startups, so there are a lot of young IT companies in the area.

E. Cyberport, a digital technology park in Hong Kong, is home to many digital industries including e-sports. E-sports is a short form for "Electronic Sports". The term refers to computer games played competitively. It is similar to a professional sport. Cyberport aims at developing e-sports and the game industry, making e-sports a mainstream sport and helping talents.

F. Akademgorodok is a part of the city of Novosibirsk, Russia. Being the educational and scientific centre of Siberia, it includes Novosibirsk State University, a lot of research institutes and a medical academy. Akademgorodok is surrounded by birch and pine forests. The forest is also an integral part of the city of scientists. The unique layout of the Akademgorodok is planned in such a way that professors and students can get from the institutes to their homes through the forest.

G. The Cambridge Science Park, founded in 1970, is the oldest science park in the United Kingdom. It has strong links with the nearby University of Cambridge. Here you can find a great number of important biomedical, computer and industrial technology companies. The park has started a 'reclaim your free time' campaign for the members of its community. The campaign is about developing on-site services such as dry cleaning, food delivery, car maintenance, etc. to help the dwellers save more of their free time.
