A Piece of the World
Sometimes art is not just an artist's idea and fantasy. Sometimes it's a whole life story. \(\boxed{32} \underline{ }\) the picture called Kristina's World, we \(\boxed{33} \underline{ }\) a girl who turned away from us. Her gaze is fixed on the farm in the distance. Her arms and legs are thin, and this picture screams like no other about the fate of the girl depicted on it.
Kristina has lived on this farm all her life. The paralysis she received as a child made her life quiet and inconspicuous. Her father wouldn't let her study. Her hands are cramped, and her bones and joints ache constantly. Her legs did not obey the girl, she often fell. But at the same time she was smart, sewed and embroidered beautifully and cooked well.
Andrew Wyeth the artist remembered her as a proud woman who did not want to \(\boxed{34} \underline{ }\) sorry for herself, did not ask for help. The story that Andrew draws is not easy. Kristina is drawn to the house from which she has always fled, which has become her piece of the world. The house in which she had spent her whole life, but which she had never owned. Because of her \(\boxed{35} \underline{ }\) , she lost hope of getting married and raising her children.
The staying in the artist's house transformed her. It is believed that Kristina did not pose for the artist for this painting. He drew her \(\boxed{36} \underline{ }\) her wanting to show what her strength is despite the weakness of her body.
Later, a book was written about Kristina Olson, which describes her childhood, a \(\boxed{37} \underline{ }\) when she could be happy if she got a kind, honourable man. She was over forty years old when she met the artist, but she confesses to him that she still feels like a girl.
The picture of Christina's World is amazing because behind it is the whole life of a simple American girl, \(\boxed{38} \underline{ }\) life would not have become significant if she had not met a talented artist.
