Script. Graffiti: vandalism or art?
Reporter: Good afternoon, Joseph. Thank you for agreeing to give us an interview. Currently, you can see various graffiti on the streets of many cities. Some people say that this is an act of vandalism, others call it masterpieces. What do you think, Joseph?
Graffiti artist: What can an artist specializing in graffiti tell you? Of course, I consider it art. But not all graffiti is done professionally.
Reporter: Where did the idea of graffiti come from?
Graffiti artist: At first, amateur artists left their signature on various walls. It looked interesting due to the colour and font. Gradually, people began to draw the surrounding reality.
Reporter: Why then is graffiti associated with vandalism?
Graffiti artist: I think first of all because vandals breaking windows, breaking something certainly poured a can of paint on the walls. Therefore, the colour on the wall, whether it is a blob or a picture, has such an association.
Reporter: Do you think graffiti should be legalised?
Graffiti artist: I don't see the point in it. I feel adrenaline and excitement when I draw graffiti in the wrong place. For example, Banksy does not need fame. He likes to draw wherever he wants.
Reporter: I agree with you. But how then to arouse sympathy for this kind of art?
Graffiti artist: Only by sending a message. To show that graffiti is not just an art object, but a way to communicate about social problems. Some kind of social advertising.
Reporter: For example?
Graffiti artist: We recently did a big project. We drew space heroes, their portraits decorated the wall of a multi-storey building. Everything was agreed with the residents and the municipality.
Reporter: Thank you Joseph, and you, dear viewers, do not forget to vote for or against graffiti. The results are already at the end of the broadcast.
