Germany is a leading country in recycling. Its recycling system is considered the best in the world. The Germans start telling kids about the Earth's ecosystem and the importance of saving nature in the kindergarten. Even at the age of three, every child knows about colourful containers and the process of nutrient cycling. They read fairy tales about our Earth, play active games and learn how to sort garbage.
The Germans are using a successful proper sorting system which is called "Green-dot". They sort their household waste into 4 different bins. They have them everywhere: at homes, in the cafes, parks, flats, hotels, supermarkets. The yellow bin is for plastic, aluminium or packaging. They use the blue one for paper and cardboard boxes. But note that only clean paper goes there. It means that a used pizza box must be thrown into the brown box (the compostable one). Also, citizens use grey bins for other trash like tins, aerosols, milk boxes.
According to researchers, Germany became the best recycler in the world. In comparison with the Americans, whose recycling is under 35% of their collected waste, the Germans recycle more than 60%. But their recycling system still has some disadvantages. For example, they burn more than 60% of their plastic garbage. It means that not more than just 38% is recycled. German ecological organisations are trying to find a solution to this burning issue. But we can declare that all European countries are trying to develop their ecologic recycling systems to be like the one in Germany.
