If you are about to write an email according to the Russian State Exam standards, remember simple punctuation rules.
- All the sentences in the letter should have punctuation marks to show the logical end of each sentence: [ ], question marks, full stops.
- Commas are always tricky in writing, so remember to put commas after:
- formal [ ] ("dear Mary", "dear Mr Brown", etc.);
- interjections ([ ], "bravo", "wow");
- discourse markers ("moreover", [ ]);
- formal [ ] ("best wishes", "best regards", etc.).
- Make sure that the phrase after the greeting starts with a [ ] letter.
- According to the standards of informal letter writing, there is no full stop [ ] at the end of the letter ("Best wishes, Sam").
