Strategies and useful tips
- It's not necessary to hear and understand every word that's spoken. You need to understand the general meaning of a text.
- All six speakers have a common topic. You need to find the peculiarities of each statement, each extract.
- Read the seven statements. Point out the details that you have to listen for (keywords).
- As you listen for the first time, note for each speaker anything which will help to fix them in your mind (age, gender) and any words/phrases that correspond to what you're listening for.
- Remember that the extracts may contain distracting information so you should listen to the whole piece before you make a decision. Don't decide too quickly. The word "but" may be the most important word in the recording!
- The paradox of being able to do everything and not choose anything.
- Being busy during the day deprives youth of the joy of childhood.
- A hobby recently available to the younger generation.
- Dangerous entertainment for teenagers.
- Constant quarrels because of the different views of the generation.
- A new generation is killing time in an alternate reality.
- An occupation that seems useless, but has a downside.

As a parent, it seems to me that modern society demands too much from the new generation. The ability to adapt, overcome stress, study well and still have many interests. My son's friend attends various sports clubs, a drawing club, various master classes all day and then does his homework until late at night. In my opinion, children should have time to enjoy their childhood.
Speaker B
The lost generation used to be called people whose childhood and the youth fell in wars and other difficult historical events of the country. I say this as a history teacher. But schoolchildren are now a kind of lost generation. They're on their phones all day. Their life is directly connected with chats, videos, TV shows and games on the phone. They really lack real communication.
Speaker C
It's great that in the 21st century, young people can choose any hobby. In addition, all tools are now available, in any store you can buy everything you need for drawing, any kind of sport, needlework, reading and even for such amazing hobbies as scrapbooking, carving or amigurumi. But there is another problem: how can a parent interest a modern child?
Speaker D
When I say that my daughter is a blogger, colleagues see this as a useless activity. But she's actually a book blogger, and you know, thanks to her, I found many wonderful books for myself. To help you better understand, she reads between 8-10 books, makes some selections, looks for discounts, and then creates a video. Creating a video is not an easy job, and because of my daughter's hard work, I've completely changed my opinion about blogging.

It's great that now you can travel around the country from the age of fourteen. All the holidays I could visit interesting places. My parents are very busy at work and they only have a vacation once a year. So I visited a couple of cities by train. Of course, my aunt and my mother's friend met me. But I walked and visited the sights on my own. This time I'm going to Kazan. I've always wanted to go there.
Speaker F
Modern people lack emotions. And as a teenager, I need them many times more. That's why my passion is extreme. I love parkour. We have our own group where we choose the coolest and dizzying buildings where you can jump. There are more than thirty of us now. My mom doesn't know about my hobby, but I am absolutely sure that I will be fine.
