Study the rule. Rewrite the sentences using "would".
The rule
We can use "would" instead of "used to" when a time is mentioned:
"When I was five, I used to visit my grandparents in their village." — " When I was five, I would visit my grandparents in their village."
Note! Both of these sentences have the same meaning.
If the sentence is not about a repeating habit/action or does not include a time expression, we can not use "would":
"I used to play soccer." — "I would play soccer."
It is more natural to say: "I used to play soccer. I would practise it every day."
Fred didn't use to eat broccoli in the kindergarten.
Fred wouldn't eat broccoli in the kindergarten.
I used to collect seashells when I was a child.
I [ ] seashells when I was a child.
Sarah didn't use to drink milk when she was nine.
When Sarah was nine, she [ ] milk.
Jim used to be a vegetarian when he was at college.
Jim [ ] when he was at college.
We used to go to the beach with friends every summer before finishing school.
We [ ] to the beach with friends every summer before finishing school.
My dad used to wear long hair in the 1990s.
My dad [ ] long hair in the 1990s.
I used to have a babysitter when I was in primary school.
I [ ] a babysitter when I was in primary school.
