Presenter: Hello everybody and welcome to our podcast. Today in our studio we are discussing the development of the city and suburbs infrastructure. A fast-growing society suggests a lot of changes. Mr Brown, a government representative, is here to tell us about the city plans. Good morning, Andrew. Welcome to the program.

Mr Brown: Good morning. Glad to be here.

Presenter: Let's start with some general notions. What do you mean when talking about infrastructure?

Mr Brown: Well… First of all, we are talking about the development of existing districts and the construction of new neighbourhoods. As we all know the population is growing so we have to build new blocks of flats. And we cannot build the house and that's all. Every district must provide citizens with hospitals, schools, entertainment, and a good transport system.

Presenter: Yes, I heard that last year several new districts appeared outside the city. Is it a difficult process to develop a new neighbourhood?

Mr Brown: Well, yes. First of all, we need to find a place that meets all the requirements. For instance, health standards, ground quality, and the accessibility to build roads. In fact, I can continue this list but that's what we consider the main things.

Presenter: Sounds great! How long does it usually take to complete all the stages?

Mr Brown: It's definitely a long process. It can take up to several years taking into account the initial stage and the day when first people can move to their houses.

Presenter: Everything seems quite nice about new districts. But what about older ones?

Mr Brown: That is what brings some problems. Unfortunately, old neighbourhoods are designed according to standards that were valid 50 years ago. So we physically are not able to provide people with modern facilities.

Presenter: Is there a solution?

Mr Brown: Every year we plan the budget so it is possible to reconstruct or rebuild existing projects, such as hospitals and schools as they are the main priority. And do not forget about the whole region.

Presenter: What do you mean?

Mr Brown: Our region is one of the biggest. So we must remember not only about the region's capital and towns but also about remote villages.

Presenter: I can't imagine how difficult your job is.

Mr Brown: Frankly speaking I have a big team of highly professional experts. Each of them is responsible for a specific part of the work. And of course, we also have representatives in the regional areas.

Presenter: As I see you have so much to tell but we have run out of time for today. Thank you very much, Andrew. It was so great to talk to you today.

Mr Brown: My pleasure.
