Strategies and useful tips

  • Read the statements very carefully and point out the keywords to help you focus on what to listen for.
  • The questions follow the order of the information in the recording.
  • Do not confuse FALSE and NOT STATED. Be particularly careful with Not stated answers—information about this is just not in the text.
  • Remember that answers should be based on information in the text, not what you personally think or know.
  • If any of the statements are connected with feelings/opinions, think about how these might be expressed.
  • Be careful with negatives in the statements.
  • Listen and begin answering. Don't expect to be able to answer everything during the first listen. Finish answering when listening for the second time.
  • Check your answers—have you answered every question?

Script Andrew: Max, thank you so much for the wonderful presentation you gave during our Physics lesson. I liked your project about space tourism. Why have you chosen this topic?

Max: Well, you see, my father inspired me to take this theme, as he is fond of travelling and has recently read about the opportunities of future space travel. I learnt a lot of interesting facts. Besides, my father is dreaming about taking a tour to Sweden to stay in the Tree Hotel!

Andrew: A Tree Hotel? What is it? I have never heard about anything like that before.

Max: Oh, it is a new trend in travelling now. Today more and more people are eager to indulge themselves with some new experiences. Tree Hotel is a must, I can tell you!

Andrew: Is it about rooms on the trees, am I right?

Max: Year! It is a wow-place! The hotel has six treehouses swathed in the forest in the heart of Sweden. One of the houses contains a reflective glass-clad room and is called the Mirrorcube. There are also houses made in the form of a UFO ship, a cabin and a dragonfly.

Andrew: How amazing! But how do you get there? Is there a ladder or a lift?

Max: In the Dragonfly house, for example, there is a 15-metre wooden ramp that takes you up and ends at a small patio outside the door. As for the others, there are ladders and ramps too.

Andrew: Oh, I wish I could visit this place. Have you already chosen the house you want to stay?

Max: Of course! The house I want to stay in is The UFO! There is a room inside with a starry sky on the ceiling. What attracts me most is that I can feel how the UFO moves because it is suspended on wires and beams connected to the trees! Besides, it has an electric, collapsible ladder through a hatch in the floor. So you can feel as if you are an alien! Can't wait to go there!

Andrew: Wow, it seems to be the most unusual experience you may ever have. When are you going there?

Max: Well, I am not sure about the date, maybe these autumn holidays because it is the time to see Aurora Borealis. Also, we want to go hiking to see moose and reindeer.

Andrew: Oh, I hope it will be great and bring you a lot of fun!

Max: Thank you, I will text you from there and share some photos.

Andrew: Looking forward to it!
