Presenter: Hello, dear viewers! Here is the new video of our travel channel. Today we are having a special guest, a popular travel blogger, Andy Willis, who has agreed to give us an interview. The issue we are going to discuss today is the popularisation of travelling on the Internet and its influence on people. Hello, Andy! Welcome to the program!
Andy Willis, a travel blogger: Hello! Nice to be in your studio.
Presenter: During recent years the Internet has been offering the users a lot of videos and programs about travelling. Whether these are travel blogging or simple life hacks on how to travel and save money, the audience is constantly growing. Why does it happen?
Andy Willis: I think this is because of the natural interest of people to what they like and that gives them entertainment and pleasure. Travelling will always be popular, as the desire to explore new places has its deep roots in human's nature when our ancestors were moving across the lands searching for new fertile lands to settle on. Bloggers and other media people are just hotting up the interest in their content by using beautiful images from their travels, as it is a win-win project to have the constant flow of interested viewers.
Presenter: It is true because I am also one of those fans who like watching those videos from popular travellers who not only give the picture of natural beauty but also comment on what they see in their peculiar manner. Do you think this manner of presenting attitudes can influence people in choosing their holiday destinations?
Andy Willis: I do, I do. And I hope I am this type of influencer too. I suppose our view on what we talk about and the choice of the place we are heading to can completely change the opinion of people to visit a certain place.
Presenter: What do you mean? Does it work positively or negatively?
Andy Willis: Actually, it has both sides. For example, I can throw light on a problem of poor accommodation facilities or lack of service in some regions and persuade my followers to go there or vice versa. Those who are adventure seekers may not pay attention to these facts and prefer enjoying nature and countryside rather than facing difficulties with hotel services.
Presenter: I see what you mean - it all depends on the person and his expectations from the trip.
Andy Willis: True. I think my followers treat my comments and information critically and decide for themselves what is better for them.
Presenter: So it is about the choice of where to go. Do you raise any problems in your videos connected with the tourist industry?
Andy Willis: That's a tricky question to answer. I think travel blogging has made a considerable impact on the culture of tourism itself. The problems that may be raised in my videos are of economic origin because tourism is not only about entertainment and joy. If the state of events which I show can draw attention to the region's economy and contribute to boosting its growth in the tourist sector, I will be pleased and sure that the job I do is for a good reason.
Presenter: Oh, that's a strong civil citizenship view. Travel bloggers are doing a lot more now, as they have substituted travel journalists on TV which is no longer popular with the young.
Andy Willis: Yeah, my audience is mostly youngsters and middle-aged people because the Internet has become an integral part of their lives. We are like travel journalists but on the Internet, so the meaning of what we do hasn't changed completely.
Presenter: I wish you good luck in the field of travel blogging. You do a good job because people can know more about other countries from different sides from your videos. Thank you for the interview.
Andy Willis: Thank you too. My pleasure.
