Strategies and useful tips
- Recommended time to fulfil is 10 minutes!
- First thing you need to do is to read the titles very carefully and translate them. Try to keep them in mind while doing the task.
- You don't need to read all the texts very carefully. Your aim is to understand the main idea.
- Most often key information can be found in the very first and last sentences of the texts.
- The heading must be the one that best covers the main topic, so you need to make sure that the heading you have chosen fits the meaning of the whole mini text and doesn't just simply use some of the same words.
- Very often you will not find the same words in the texts and titles, so pay attention to synonyms.
- If necessary highlight the keywords in the texts.
- Remember! There is one extra title that you do not use.

A. Jacques-Yves Cousteau was a French naval officer, scientist, photographer and researcher who studied sea flora and fauna. Cousteau described his underwater world research in a series of books and films. His most notable film, "The Silent World", which is the documentary adaptation of his book, won the first prize at the 1956 Cannes Film Festival.
B. Christopher Columbus was born in Italy. He is considered to be one of the most controversial explorers in history. He made four voyages across the Atlantic and around the Mediterranean. He opened the way for European exploration and colonisation of the Americas. During his voyages he suffered a lot of hardships including serious diseases which he brought to the continent.
C. Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space who took the greatest leap into the unknown. On 12 April, 1961, Yuri travelled around the Earth and 315 km above it in his spaceship "Vostok 1". It was the first manned flight into outer space. Since then Gagarin became an international celebrity and was awarded many medals and titles, including the nation's highest honour.
D. Mikhail Kozhukhov is a Russian journalist and television presenter. In the beginning of his career, he worked as a staff reporter of a famous Russian newspaper. Kozhukhov was a host of "In Search of Adventures" television program. The programme is a series of adventures around the world. The main character tries to find an unusual profession which doesn't exist elsewhere in the world and shows the viewers the peculiar features of life and work in this or that country.
E. Fyodor Konyukhov is a Russian voyager, aerial and marine explorer, and an artist. Konyukhov is known for taking extreme challenges: he reached such extreme points of the planet as the North Pole, the South Pole, the top of Mount Everest and also sailed around the world via Cape Horn four times. In 2010 Konyukhov became an ordained Russian Orthodox priest.
F. Rual Amundsen was a researcher and polar explorer from Norway. He made a lot of discoveries during his lifetime. The list of his achievements includes the conquest of the South Pole. Together with his friend and associate Oscar Wisting, he visited both poles of the Earth. Amundsen collected materials on meteorology and ethnography which have made an invaluable contribution to world science.
G. Marco Polo was born in Venice. He was a merchant, explorer and writer who set out for China in the 1270s. He travelled through Persia, Afghanistan, along the Silk Road all the way to what is now Beijing. He led missions to India, Burma and other parts of China. The "Travels of Marco Polo" is a book with records of his stories and journeys which focuses on the mysterious culture and inner workings of the Eastern world.
