We start loving Pushkin's poetry in our childhood years. There is hardly a child who hasn't heard about the learned cat that walks around the oak tree or about the golden cockerel. As we grow up, we come to admire Pushkin's poems about friendship and love. We dread the Bronze Horseman. We sympathise with Tatiana discouraged by Onegin, who said he didn't want to have a relationship with her.
Pushkin's appearance is familiar to every child. Everyone knows the poet's sketches of himself. One of the most famous portraits of Pushkin is the one portraying him at his final school examination. In the picture, we can also see the famous poet Derzhavin, looking at the young Pushkin with admiration.
Needless to say, we all know the romantic story of Pushkin's love and marriage to Natalia Goncharova, who was one of the leading beauties of her time. They were a fascinating couple and their popularity was immense. Pushkin had to fight a duel defending Natalia's honour. The duel turned out to be a fatal one, and the great poet was killed.
