Similes
A simile is an expression with the words "like" or "as" used to compare one thing to another. We use similes in stories to make the narrative colourful and vivid.

e.g. as cold as ice

Similes often have alliteration – the repetition of the sound.

e.g. as weak as water, as meek as a mouse
