B. Sanskrit is an ancient Indian language with a complex grammar system. According to one of the translations, it means "perfect". According to another translation, it means "the language of gods", which shows its religious purpose. Almost all well-known religious texts of Ancient India, like Mahabharata or Ramayana, are in Sanskrit. You will probably be surprised, but the name of the language does not say anything about its nationality. It was used as a literary language, not for everyday speech, but most Indian languages derived from it.

C. Sanskrit was spoken only by the eligible people, and, like many ancient scripts, it was oral. There was no original writing system, and later the words were written using the local alphabet. One of the oldest systems that transcribed Sanskrit is called Brahmi. Today, the most popular way to write in Sanskrit is Devanagari, which takes its origin from the Brahmi script. It is used for writing in more than 120 languages, and its signs look really beautiful. Sanskrit is well-preserved because the Indian people kept learning the texts by heart even after the writing system had appeared. Thus, they wanted to save the language from enormous changes.

D. There is no certain answer to how Sanskrit appeared on the territory of India and Pakistan. But according to its similarity with Slavic and Finno-Ugric languages, we may say that it had migrated from these countries. Presumably, it happened in the II century B.C. Like most European languages, it is derived from the Pro-Indo-European language. The proof is plenty of common words existing in all these languages.

E. Can we call Sanskrit a dead language? Firstly, let us remember that it was not used in everyday speech: it had mostly a religious and literary meaning. But the term "dead" does not mean the language is forgotten. Scientists call it so because the language stopped developing. Secondly, the language belongs to the 22 official languages of India and is still used in science. Nowadays, with the popularity of Indian culture in the world, Sanskrit is becoming more and more popular among foreigners, as well. In usual book shops, one can find many books on learning it.
