Colons
Colons (:) are used when we introduce a long list.
There are many ecological problems in the world: global warming, deforestation, destruction of animal habitats, etc.

Thirdly, colons are used after a main clause if the following statement illustrates the contents of the main clause. It may be replaced by a semicolon or a full stop.

Colons can be also used in quotations, where they separate the introduction and the speaker's words given in quotation marks.
Mr Wilson said: "It is your path to achieve success, dear."
