Strategies and useful tips
- Read the statements very carefully and point out the keywords to help you focus on what to listen for.
- The questions follow the order of the information in the recording.
- Do not confuse FALSE and NOT STATED. Be particularly careful with Not stated answers: information about this is just not in the text.
- Remember that answers should be based on information in the text, not what you personally think or know.
- If any of the statements are connected with feelings/opinions, think about how these might be expressed.
- Be careful with negatives in the statements.
- Listen and begin answering. Don't expect to be able to answer everything during the first listen. Finish answering when listening for the second time.
- Check your answers: have you answered every question?

Sandy: Hi, David. Yes, our plane landed last night.
David: You go to China so often! Probably already visited all the sights in your city.
Sandy: Almost, but every time I find something new. For example, yesterday, a few hours before departure, we managed to visit an open-air exhibition of Chinese photographers.
David: Great, was the weather good? Share your impressions.
Sandy: Oh, the exhibition was amazing. It was dedicated to ordinary people, farmers, the elderly, everyone who makes up the Chinese people.
David: And what is it special about?
Sandy: Well, the Chinese can see their pastimes, and someone recollects their childhood. For foreigners, this exhibition can open a new China, atypical but at the same time alive and real.
David: Which exhibits are remembered the most?
Sandy: Photos in the delivery room, mailboxes of all colours and shapes. Traditional Chinese barbershop in the open air, women who were the last to practice lotus foot shapes. There were also sports grounds and spectacular festivals. Who took a picture of an elderly man drawing hieroglyphs with a large brush on the sidewalk. It's all part of the culture.
David: Sounds great! Among them were famous artists, weren't they?
Sandy: You know, I was paying attention to the photos, not the names. Plus, I don't really know many famous photographers. But the works are so amazing that perhaps there were celebrities among them.
David: What do you think is the main point of such exhibitions?
Sandy: I think it is to show the moments of what we are now. What is left, what is valuable, and what is lost. To show the realities, without embellishment, without exaggeration. To show the life that people live every day. In towns and villages. It's very expressive and magnificent.
David: Cool! I would like to have a similar exhibition in our city about our people.
Sandy: I think there is one, you need to look for a poster.
