Strategies and useful tips
Recommended time to fulfil is 10 minutes!
First thing you need to do is to read the titles very carefully and translate them. Try to keep them in mind while doing the task.
You don't need to read all the texts very carefully. Your aim is to understand the main idea.
Most often key information can be found in the very first and last sentences of the texts.
The heading must be the one that best covers the main topic, so you need to make sure that the heading you have chosen fits the meaning of the whole mini text and doesn't just simply use some of the same words.
Very often you will not find the same words in the texts and titles, so pay attention to synonyms.
If necessary, highlight the keywords in the texts.
Remember! There is one extra title that you do not use.
- Distinguishable from the Parent Profession.
- Testing Camps.
- Competitive Environment.
- Education Among Books.
- A year for Reflection.
- Separation of Hobbies and Work.
- Continuation of the Dynasty.
- An Alternative to Urban Life.
A. I'm going to continue the dynasty of our family and become a doctor. Everyone in our family is a surgeon. My problem is that I don't know much about chemistry, and I need it for my studies. It may be worth contacting a tutor, but I'm not going to go off the planned path. I want my children to become a part of this extraordinary profession.
B. I don't see any point in continuing my studies after school at the university. That's why I'll be looking for a job right after graduation. There are no higher educational institutions in our town, and I don't want to move to a big city. It will be a good opportunity for me to become a farmer, but for this I need initial capital. So I'm going to save up some money for a couple of years, and then buy a house and animals.
C. I don't have any plans yet about what I want to do after graduation. Mum offers me to take a gap year, and I am very grateful to her for that. I hope this time will give me the opportunity to sort myself out and make the right decision. It's still better than a sudden decision that will radically change your life.
D. Everyone in my family is a lawyer. And my parents really hope that I will join the ranks of lawyers too. But I dream of acting at the theatre. Now I'm taking acting classes. They require full dedication, and I'm afraid I won't have time to study. So I'm going to convince my parents otherwise.
E. I always go back to writer Ray Bradbury's opinion on knowledge. He himself did not receive a higher education but studied all day in the library. Lack of education did not prevent him from becoming a writer. Maybe I can do it?
F. I fix computers. I like it, and my parents think that my skill can be turned into a profession. On the one hand, many people dream of combining hobbies and work. It is considered that this is the peak of happiness when you do what you love. But I ask myself: will the hobby remain a hobby when it turns into a routine job?
G. I am a big fan of films about teenagers who master certain professions. But I understand that the stories told in movies and real life are not always equal. It is incredibly difficult to get a really well-paid and relevant one for our time. It's good that now there are camps where you can master and get acquainted with the base of professions. I'm going to go to a business camp this summer.
