The World of RPGs

In the last 10 years, tabletop role-playing games have gained a lot of attention. Most of it is drawn to the famous tabletop RPG of all times, Dungeons & Dragons, A _____ the fifth edition of the game. But what exactly are tabletop RPGs and why should we play them?

The origins of role-playing games are somewhere in the old times. Ancient traditions B _____ and improvisational theatres with make-believe play elements as forms of entertainment, and in later centuries many board games and parlour games contained bits of role-playing. Then there came wargames, which originated from chess, a monumental strategy game. Wargames are C _____ using symbolic figures and a strict set of rules. Wargames combined with fantasy elements were what evolved into what we now know as tabletop RPGs, and the first commercially available tabletop role-playing game was Dungeons & Dragons (D & D), published in 1974 and developed by game designers Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson.
