Presenter: Hello everybody and welcome to our podcast. It is May already and thousands of pupils are going to pass their final exams. So today we are discussing the problem of choosing the future career path. That is the question that bothers almost every graduate. Today in the studio we have a guest! This is a popular blogger John B. He has recently done a survey on this issue and we'll be glad to get some statistics. Good morning, John. Welcome to the program.
John: Good morning. I've heard a lot about your show and always wanted to take part in it! Glad to be here.
Presenter: So, as we are limited in time, let's just cut to our main topic!
John: Sure, no problem! What would you like to know first?
Presenter: What about some general idea of your survey? How many respondents were there? What questions did you include in the quiz?
John: Well… Answering your first question… 1000 graduates took part in the survey. It's in fact quite a big number of participants. I posted a link to it on my webpage so everybody who was ready to spend several minutes answering prepared questions. The questionnaire included five points.
Presenter: What were they?
John: With my team and the psychologist we had chosen 5 questions. "Have you chosen what to do after school?" "If yes, when did you make the final decision?" "How sure are you of your choice?" "Who or what influenced your decision?" "Are you considering a gap year as an alternative?"
Presenter: Did they have to choose answers from the given ones or they had to type in their own ideas?
John: There were three possible given options and the fourth one was an empty space where they could present their own answer if none above suited them.
Presenter: So what were the results? Were there any surprising outcomes?
John: You know, we've been doing the same research for five years already and it's always interesting to see the tendency. The results of this year partly differ from the results received five years ago.
Presenter: What's the most striking thing?
John: You know, every year more and more graduates consider a gap year as an alternative. And some are still not sure what to do after leaving school. And I don't think it's a bad thing as the job market is huge nowadays. So there are a lot of different options.
Presenter: Yes, I also think that it's just the consequence of the fast-developing society. So to conclude, nowadays teenagers have enough career opportunities! Thank you very much, John. It was so great to talk to you today.
John: My pleasure.
