The great Antarctic continent, located at the South Pole, is almost a desert. The climate on its icy lands is not adapted to human life. It is characterized by stable hurricanes - force winds and severe frosts. In winter, the temperature drops below -60 \(\degree\) C, and sometimes reaches -90 \(\degree\) C. In summer, the temperature rarely exceeds 0 \(\degree\) C. The continent is covered with ice, the thickness of which in some places reaches 4200 meters.
The Antarctic continent is located almost inside the Arctic Circle. Its area is 14 million square meters, that is 10 percent of the planet's land area. However, only 3 percent of its territory is ice-free. In winter, the size of the continent is doubled due to the freezing of the seas. Digital image then forms steep ice coasts that reach a height of more than 10 meters on the Antarctic continent. Often, the sea surf breaks them, forming large floating ice masses. These masses form giant blocks of ice, called icebergs, and they are picked up by the sea and start drifting.
In 1959, the international agreement on the Antarctic continent was signed, which prohibited any military and economic intervention in this territory. In 1991, the Antarctic continent was declared a natural reserve, that is, now it can only be used in the interests of peace and science; it was forbidden to extract any materials here. Later, Antarctica was declared an international Park.
