All my life I thought of myself as a loser. I wasn't fit enough to be on the football team. I wasn't the smartest guy in the class. I had never won a science competition. But most of all, I struggled with my appearance.

Being a child of a fitness trainer and a doctor puts you under a lot of pressure. I was quite plump and slow, and my classmates used to make fun of me. My parents never missed a chance to say that I should stop eating that much and go to the gym, or I'd forever be me. I was confused. Why was it so bad to be the way I was? Why did I let people's opinion upset me? I was a mess, and it seemed that nobody would accept me, including myself.

It all went on until I decided to talk to a professional who worked in our school. She was a psychologist, and her job was to help children like me to overcome social difficulties.

We would talk a lot about everything—my parents, my classmates and my art, and I never felt sorry for myself or ashamed of who I was. I started to learn how to value my strengths and accept my weaknesses. I began to try different sports and became more active. All my self-doubt disappeared eventually. And all it took was a decision to open up and talk to a professional. I was finally my best self.
