The History of Mobile Phones
Mobile phones are an indispensable element of our everyday life. Their popularity is growing, as we use them to communicate with people, browse the Internet, listen to music or watch interesting videos. Numerous useful apps make our life easier and help us deal with problems.
Mobile phones, as we know them today, appeared nearly 25 years ago. However, the history of this device takes us back to the beginning of the XX century. The predecessor of the first wireless phone was tested in Germany on trains between Zossen and Berlin. The technology continued to develop and in 1926 the German company established the first telephone service in trains that was offered to first-class travellers. Later, in 1940 some telephone companies developed the first mobile phones for cars.
Mobile technology was developing in a series of waves known as generations presented with the letter G. The first generation of mobile phones or "1G" let mobile phone users travel and switch cell towers during a call. The technology spread across the world in the 1970–1980s. In 1973 the first hand-held mobile phone appeared. It weighed 1.1 kg and enabled 30 minutes of talk-time. It was charged for 10 hours.
The second generation of mobile phones arrived in the 1990s. It was the beginning of SMS communication. This generation of mobile phones enabled users to download ringtones. In 1999 the first full mobile internet service was introduced that eventually changed the world forever.
As the 2G technology couldn't meet all the requirements of customers, developers started to work on the third generation of mobile phones that appeared in Tokyo in 2001. It was another milestone in the history of mobile phones that opened a whole new era of media streaming. Now we are witnessing the development of fourth generation technology. As the technologies are rapidly improving, perhaps, soon we will see new standards, changing our world for the better.
