Prominent Women of the British Commonwealth
Everyone has probably heard of such women as Queen Elizabeth I and Elizabeth II, Diana Spencer or Margaret Thatcher, or even watched films based on their biographies. Were there other famous women in the history of the British Commonwealth who, unlike the above, were not born aristocrats and did not become politicians? Naturally, the British are well aware of their names. Let's take a quick look at them.
Irene Parlby was a member of the Famous Five, a group of five Canadian women who petitioned the Supreme Court of Canada in 1928 asking if women were "individuals". The essence of the request was whether women were included in the concept of "individuals" specified in the Constitution Act. The Supreme Court ruled that women were not individuals within the meaning of this law and could not be elected to the Senate. However, this decision was reversed after a year and a half. The first woman in Canadian history to be appointed to the Senate thanks to Irene Parlby was Cairine Wilson.

Nancy Wake was born in New Zealand but rose to fame as an English spy during World War II. She carried out various assignments, was a liaison, and recruited people into the Resistance. Her life was in constant danger, for she was the most wanted person for the Gestapo. A price of five million francs was assigned for her life. She managed the squad's finances, launched attacks, and killed uncovered spies in cold blood. After the war, she worked in intelligence.
