Once upon a time, when I was in India, I witnessed some unusual wedding ceremonies.
Being carefully planned and artistically performed, these ceremonies made an unforgettable impression on me. The wedding itself symbolises the physical, emotional and spiritual union not only of two people but also of their relatives and friends.
The bride was wearing a red dress with gold embroidery. Absolutely stunning and gorgeous! She was draped in a necklace of gold and black beads, her hands were adorned with Henna drawings.
The groom's arrival was celebrated with great joy. As guests arrived, they were divided into the bride and groom's side. Their families greeted each other, they danced and sang.
The bride's father gave her daughter away during the ceremony, he placed her hands into her soon-to-be spouse's hands.
The couple wedded under the Mandap, a special structure decorated with flowers, fabrics and crystals. During the ceremony the newly-weds showered each other with rice. This tradition symbolises prosperity and happiness for the couple's future life.
