Listen and put the items in order they are in the recordingInterviewerMichelleHi, I'm Tom Brown and it's our new rubric The World of Unusual Professions. Our guest today is Michelle O'Connor. Her profession is relatively new but quite popular. She is a shopping consultant. Hi, Michelle!Hi there! So, Michelle. The first question to start with - What does a person of your profession do?Well, actually a lot. First of all, this person meets a customer and finds out their preferences. The next step is helping a customer to choose the appropriate style of clothes. And what factors do you usually consider while choosing a style? There are three main factors that are necessary to take into account: age, appearance and character. I also need to find a balance between the wishes of my customer and reality. Sometimes it's pretty difficult. In your opinion, what skills and competencies can help you to succeed in this sphere?Oh, that's a good question… Well… first of all, a good shopping consultant should be very professional and persuasive. They also have to be very friendly and empathetic to their customers. What do you do if your customer doesn't follow your advice, and keeps on choosing the clothes they used to wear before?I let them do that but also suggest trying on some outfits chosen by me. Usually, it's enough to let a customer feel the difference and listen to me.And how long do you usually work with a customer? It depends. Some customers need my advice to get ready for certain events and some of them work with me on a daily basis. How did you come to this profession?Five years ago I was working as a sales manager for a big company. I had a successful career but wasn't happy. One day I decided to change everything and left. It took some time to decide what I wanted to do but I finally got it. Now I'm happy to be a shopping consultant and help people to look more attractive and stylish.Michelle, you are really persuasive. I think many of our listeners have a wish to try their hands at your profession. It was great talking to you.
