Oscar Wilde
Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde was born in Dublin in 1854. He was a well-known Irish writer, playwright and poet of the Victorian Era. Oscar was the second child in the family. His parents were Sir William and Lady Jane Francesca Wilde. Sir William Wilde was an outstanding surgeon. He had a free infirmary for the poor and was knighted for his medical activity. His mother secretly wrote poems for the revolutionary movement of Young Irlanders.
The author got an exemplary education. He was good at fast reading and ancient languages. At Trinity College, he got interested in aesthetics, which greatly influenced his writing genre and appearance. For instance, Wilde wore fashionable clothes and was always good-looking. Studying in Oxford, Wilde trained a clear English pronunciation. He visited Italy and Greece and was impressed by the local culture and beauty of these countries.
After graduation, the author moved to London, where he revolutionised fashion and attracted attention by his look. Due to his brilliant and sensitive humour, Wilde was always welcome at different social events.
From the 1880s, the popularity of Oscar Wilde had been increasing. In 1882, he went to America, where he gave lectures on cultural issues. When the author came there, people had already known about him. Many people visited his performances. After America, the writer went to Paris. There, he got acquainted with many famous writers of that time.
Oscar Wilde was married to Constance Lloyd. They had two sons, Cyril and Vyvyan. Cyril was a military; he was killed in action at the age of 29. Vyvyan was an English writer and translator.
Oscar Wilde ended his life in Paris, France. He died in 1900 at the age of 46.
