A[Forests and CO2|Global concern|Sudden warming|Species extinction|Threat to humanity|Resources]

Can climate really be a threat to humanity? Many scientists all over the world believe that soon our planet and the climate will drastically change and affect our lives. Recent research shows that the temperatures are expected to rise up to 4°C by the end of the 21st century. Moreover, the temperature is already considered to be higher than normal.

B[Forests and CO2|Global concern|Sudden warming|Species extinction|Threat to humanity|Resources]

Global warming is not something new for the Earth. Over its history of billions of years the planet's climate has changed a lot. But people are concerned that previously the changes took thousands of years while now the climate seems to change in just a decade. This sudden warming can be caused by human activity or industrial revolution, i.e. burning coal, oil and gas and emitting huge amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2).

C[Forests and CO2|Global concern|Sudden warming|Species extinction|Threat to humanity|Resources]

As we know, carbon dioxide is not something absolutely dangerous, it's a natural part of the Earth's ecosystem. Plants consume carbon dioxide and release oxygen, and this works just fine but only if there is a certain amount of CO2. Scientists suppose that humans produce much more than our forests can manage. Another problem is that around the globe more and more forests are burned or cut down, and less is restored

D[Forests and CO2|Global concern|Sudden warming|Species extinction|Threat to humanity|Resources]

Some believe that animals and also humans will likely adapt to the change. Some parts of this opinion may be true, as proven by evolution. In order to survive many species might have to migrate. But if the changes are indeed very fast, many won't be able to either adapt or migrate and will become extinct, for example, the polar bear population will most probably decrease by 30% just in 30 years.

E[Forests and CO2|Global concern|Sudden warming|Species extinction|Threat to humanity|Resources]

Climate crisis is a global concern and it can only be solved if we work together to restore our nature. It's time we start investing in renewable energy, reducing consumption, cleaning up air pollution in big cities and using the planet's resources reasonably and sustainably.
