A milkshake is a cold drink made of milk, ice cream and, usually, some flavoured syrup. Milkshakes are served in high glasses, and the best way to drink them is with the use of a straw. A common attribute of a milkshake is whipped cream that is put on the top of the drink and sometimes combined with sweet decorations like chocolate chips or pieces of fruit. The original milkshake was an alcoholic drink: it consisted of whiskey mixed with eggs and some other ingredients. By 1900, the definition of the milkshake became closer to what we know today, alcohol and eggs completely removed, yet until 1922, milkshakes didn't contain any ice cream. The first man to add ice cream was Ivar Coulson, who worked at Chicago Walgreens and by chance decided to add some ice cream to milk mixed with malt, a popular ingredient at this period.
