\(\boxed{40.1}\)
Imagine that you are doing a project on the top five methods of protecting nature among people. You have collected some data on the subject—the results of the sociological survey (see the table below).
Comment on the data in the table and give your personal opinion on the subject of the project.
| Methods | People doing it (%) |
| Saving water and electricity | 60 |
| Recycling | 40 |
| Reusable things | 35 |
| Refusing plastic | 15 |
| Refusing teabags | 5 |
Write 200–250 words.
Use the following plan:
- make an opening statement on the subject of the project work;
- select and report 2–3 main features;
- make 1–2 comparisons where relevant;
- outline a problem that can arise with environmental issues and suggest the way of solving it;
- draw a conclusion giving your personal opinion on the issues.
Many people [believe|believes|believing]that protecting the environment is a definite activity done by ecologists and eco-activists. However, society [gets|is getting|getting]more concerned about environmental issues. [Every|Any|Some]day, many people perform simple actions protecting the environment without knowing it. I have collected the results of the sociological survey [for|at|on]the subject. The data of the survey are in the [way|form|shape]of a table. [Thus|This|Those], I am going to reveal the usual actions of an ordinary person to protect nature.
As it is presented in the table, [60|sixty|6]of one hundred people save water and electricity. They do it by turning off the tapes and the lights when they [not using|are not using|aren't using]them. [For|To|At]instance, people turn off the water when they brush their teeth or do the washing up. Compared [on|to|at]this, fewer people use reusable things, like shoppers, shoe covers and others—only 35 per cent. [The smallest|Smallest|The small]number is five—people who refuse to buy tea in teabags. Only a few people know that teabags are ecologically [unfriendly|friendly|not friendly].
In [my|your|mine]opinion, the survey results show that plenty of people try to protect the environment without knowing it, which is a positive fact. However, I [convince|am convinced|convincing]that the best solution is teaching people new ways to take care of the planet.

\(\boxed{40.2}\)
Imagine that you are doing a project on what reusable things people prefer most. You have collected some data on the subject—the results of the sociological survey (see the diagram below).
Comment on the data in the diagram and give your personal opinion on the subject of the project.
Write 200–250 words.
Use the following plan:
- make an opening statement on the subject of the project work;
- select and report 2–3 main features;
- make 1–2 comparisons where relevant;
- outline a perspective that might appear as a result of using reusable things;
- draw a conclusion giving your personal opinion on the subject.
Now read the sample piece of writing below and choose the correct options to complete the text.
Protecting the environment [are|is|–] a job possible for everyone. Every [people|person|man] may have their own method of taking care of nature. One of the most appropriate things is [refuse|refusing|to refusing] disposable goods like plastic bags and bottles, shoe covers and containers for food. To begin [with|on|here], I have collected the results of a [biological|sociological|paleontological] survey on the subject. The data of the survey [is|are|] presented in the form of a diagram. I [going|am going|is going] to reveal the top five reusable things people choose in their everyday life.
[As|Like|So] it is presented in the diagram, about 33 per cent prefer using a shopper instead of a plastic bag. [The more|The maniest|The most] common explanation is that the reusable shopper is cheaper and sturdier. Moreover, [20|twenty|twen-ty] per cent of the surveyed have eco-bags for buying fruit and vegetables. They explained that they did not want to take too [many|much|any] plastic home. The least popular reusable thing was shoe covers: only six per cent have them when they visit the dentist [but|nor|or] the physician.
To sum [down|up|in], I would like to note that refusing disposable things is getting more and more typical in today's world. Probably, in the next ten or fifteen years, people will be able to [increase|reduce|shorten] pollution.
