Strategies and useful tips

  • Recommended time to fulfil is 10 minutes!
  • First thing you need to do is to read the titles very carefully and translate them. Try to keep them in mind while doing the task.
  • You don't need to read all the texts very carefully. Your aim is to understand the main idea.
  • Most often key information can be found in the very first and last sentences of the texts.
  • The heading must be the one that best covers the main topic, so you need to make sure that the heading you have chosen fits the meaning of the whole mini text and doesn't just simply use some of the same words.
  • Very often you will not find the same words in the texts and titles, so pay attention to synonyms.
  • If necessary, highlight the keywords in the texts.
  • Remember! There is one extra title that you do not use.
  1. One Recycling Company.
  2. Bad Plastic Windows.
  3. How to Recycle.
  4. Back to the Start.
  5. Being Irrational.
  6. Eco-lessons.
  7. Raws are not Trash.
  8. Containers for Materials.

A. In today's world, one of the most typical issues is the environment. Air pollution, plastic packaging, disposable goods—everything influences the condition of our planet. People clean and polish their houses, but few of us are conscious enough to ponder the future life of their utilized goods. Plenty of packaging, plastic bags and containers are thrown into a usual trash can and have only one way—the polygon.

B. People who do not recycle their rubbish pay little attention to where it goes further. But recycling companies disagree with the words "rubbish" or "litter" used with the recyclable materials these people throw away. The recyclers state that such materials as plastic, glass, paper and aluminium are used for producing various kinds of goods. For instance, plastic bottles can turn into fillers for jackets. Or they can become the feedstock for building a playground for children.

C. Tomsk recycling company under a big name—"Pure World"—is highly famous in its city and outside. It is a small private company that recycles many kinds of plastic, glass, paper and some types of metal. "Pure World" collaborates with different organisations. For example, there is a stock, "Bottle Caps", in which plenty of schools and kindergartens take part twice a year. Children, parents, and teachers hand over their caps of plastic bottles for further recycling. Bottles are also accepted. Some of the money the company earns by providing the stock it gives for charity.

D. Earlier, the company set special crates for recyclable materials all over the city. Tomsk citizens had an opportunity to give their raw for recycling next to their houses or not far from their areas. But at the end of 2020, the crates turned out to be economically inefficient. The cost of service for such containers was too high—the donations sent by the citizens were not enough. At the end of January, the company representatives announced that they had to remove the crates.

E. Thus, "Pure World" had to go back where they started. They collected the recyclable materials in their office and organised special events in different districts of Tomsk city. All the people who wanted to hand over their materials could visit it and leave their raws there. But that was not all. The company organised an eco-mobile that collected recyclable materials in different parts of the city.

F. "Pure World" is not only a recycling company. It has a non-commercial organisation "Green Ray" that works with the youth. The representatives offer excursions to their recycling centre, go to schools and universities to tell the students about recycling. A company's representative also teaches the children and the staff to recycle and shows some materials that will become many helpful things.

G. Recycling turns out to be more complicated than people think of it. For example, all the raw materials must be clean and free from foreign smells. And everyone is welcome to divide their stuff into fractions. It should be remembered that there are seven main types of plastic—and only five of them are recyclable. The types are printed in a small triangle on the backside of the packaging. Numbers 3 and 7 are non-recyclable in our country.
