A.H&M has steadily grown into one of the biggest names in fashion. They currently sell their products including clothes, accessories, cosmetics, and kitchenware at about 5,000 stores all around the world. Undoubtedly, most people have shopped at one of these stores at least once, considering that H&M is the second-largest clothing retailer in the world. H&M is a European company with their head offices in Sweden. They report sales of about $20,000,000,000 each year.

B.Erling Persson founded H&M in the 1940s, shortly after World War II ended. He went on a trip to the USA, where he saw large stores that seemed to be doing well. The following year, he opened his own store in his home country, Sweden. He named the store Henniswhich is a Swedish word for "her" because originally it sold only female clothing. As the company was growing, Persson bought another store called Moritz, that sold various types of products including male sportswear. This deal widened his customer base and turned the store into a family clothing company named Hennis & Moritz.

C.H&M slowly spread around the world. They never hurried or got into much debt. It allowed the company to control the quality of the clothes and service. In the first 17 years of their existence, they were represented only in Sweden, the next 12 years — in Sweden and the UK, and only 24 years after they opened their first store in the United States in 1974. That was when they decided to shorten the company's name from Hennis & Moritz to H&M, which was much simpler and easier to pronounce for non-Swedish-speakers.

D.Basically, H&M designs its clothes, and it has them manufactured quickly by factories situated in developing countries. They sell clothes at low prices, but in huge numbers. This system guarantees that there always will be a lot of new trendy clothes, and people will often come back to buy more and more. Many stores these days use this system, but H&M was among the first to imply it, it's considered a pioneer of fast fashion.

E.H&M has been effective in using the Internet to strengthen its sales. They started sending things on the Internet in 1998, which has become about a third of their business (32%). Also, the H&M company is the owner of many smaller brands such as Monki, Weekday, and others. Interestingly, two of these stores — Afoundand Sellpy — work exclusively online. H&M is working on creating a system that integrates physical stores and online platforms together. For example, you can pick up your delivery at a physical store, or try on an item and look for it on the website (usually, with a nice discount).

F.Throughout its history, H&M has been using famous names to get people interested in their products. Thus, in the 1970s, when H&M started selling cosmetics, they advertised it with a member of a popular Swedish pop band Abba. In the 1990s, they started to use giant billboards located in major European cities to advertise. On those billboards you could see the most popular models of the time like Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell. Recently, they have made several collaborations with modern celebrities like Lana del Rey, Beyonce, Katy Perry.
