[New types of trains in Japan|A Dining train for gourmets|One train combining two joys|Japanese way of promotion]
The high-speed train Rokumon is one of the few dining trains where you can enjoy the glorious views and try local delicacies at the same time.
Rokumon is translated as "six coins" that are associated with coins on the flag of the Sanada Clan in Nagano. The train is painted in red outside and has a luxurious interior inside.
Every day Rokumon transports its passengers from Nagano to Karuizawa. A regular express usually covers this destination within 25 minutes but a trip by Rokumon takes 2,5 hours. This dining train makes seven stops in little-known towns, which helps to promote them and their speciality produce.
Rokumon travels slowly and stops at the stations where travellers have the opportunity to see local attractions. For example, at Comoro Station you can take a walk in the garden, and in Ueda, take pictures with people dressed in costumes from the popular historical drama.
All the dishes served in Rokumon are prepared by the chefs of the local top-class restaurants. The menu includes meat, fish and vegetables, beautifully decorated in boxes with several levels called Bento. The beautiful scenery outside the window complements the joy of dinner and travel.
