Charles Dickens
Charles Dickens, an outstanding writer of the Victorian Era, was born in Portsmouth in 1812. His father, John Dickens, served as an official at the royal naval base. Charles had seven siblings, and later, he also became a multi-children father.
When he was only 12 years old, his father got to prison for his debts. Charles was one of the eldest children in the family, so he had to start working at Warren's Blacking Factory. His income was only six shillings a week. After the grandmother's death, Charles's father received some inheritance and was released from prison. The future writer could find a new job as a journalist at a local newspaper.
Charles Dickens's career as a writer flourished in 1836 after he had published The Pickwick Papers. During his life, the author composed many fascinating tales and novels. Some of them are A Christmas Carol in Prose, Great Expectations, Little Dorrit, David Copperfield, and Oliver Twist. Nowadays, they are still popular; many motion pictures have been set out of Dickens's books.
Like many artistic people, the writer was an extraordinary man. He is said to communicate with his characters who were helping him to write his works. Dickens had flash-forwards, as well. He truly empathised with his book characters. Sometimes, they bothered the author so much that he had to leave home and stroll in the crowded streets in order not to see or hear them.
Dickens died in 1870 at the age of 58. He was overburdened with work and troubles connected with his family members, which led to a stroke.
