Mother: Where are you going, Ann?
Ann: I'm going over to Kate's.
Mother: That's a bad idea. You are taking an important test tomorrow and you are not ready yet. You promised to stay at home and study all day.
Ann: Don't worry, Mum! Everything will be OK! I'll be back in a couple of hours and I'll prepare for the test.
Mother: That's what you always say. And then you come back home and say you're too tired to study.
Ann: I can't stand it when you tell me what to do, Mum. You think you know best, but let me decide for myself.
Mother: You're too young to decide for yourself, Ann.
Ann: Mum, you want to control everything. Yesterday you tidied up my room. You shouldn't have done that.
Mother: Your room was a horrible mess. I asked you to tidy it up a thousand times but you paid no attention to my words. So I had to tidy it myself. Do you really think I did it for pleasure? Mind you, I work all day and then I come home and have to do the housework. Tidying up your room is no fun. It's not my job to do it for you. I'm sick and tired of it.
Ann: So don't do it! Just leave my room the way it is.
Mother: Well, young lady, you'd better say "thank you", I guess!
Ann: But I really hate it when you tidy up my room. It drives me crazy. I can't find anything after that: my earphones, my portable speaker, my favourite T-shirt… You put all my things in the wrong places.
Mother: I put your things in the right places. The problem is you are used to living in a mess. And as for your speaker, I'm glad you can't find it. You always listen to loud music and it gets on my nerves. Now I'll have a bit of peace and quiet.
Ann: I didn't know it was bothering you. OK, Mum, I won't listen to music that loud, I promise. Can I go now?
Ann is ready for the test.
