A holiday is not only a cocktail, a sun lounger, the ocean and doing nothing. It is also an adventure out of the blue when it seems that nothing could happen to you at all. Suddenly, absolutely anything can happen — from romantic love-stories to lost plane tickets.
My sister Claire has a story about a nearly 25-hour flight from Sumatra to Moscow with numerous transfers and with a flight delay that almost made her miss the next flight. There were many critical moments in this story. But first of all, it is important to say what happened during her holiday on the island.
Claire will always remember Sumatra not only as the habitat of various lizards and snakes of all sizes, but she will also keep in mind a frightening extreme trip on a mountain road with her eyes closed with fear, a blocked bank card, an open-air sleepover and the jungle all around. There was no mobile connection, no Internet, tropical downpours and strong winds almost every day.
Despite the fact that the trip was over and Claire was ready to return home, her adventures continued. For example, at the last moment at Jakarta airport it became clear that it is necessary to make a special payment. Claire had no cash, and her card was not accepted. However, there was a cash machine on the other side of the waiting room. So she rushed to the machine! She withdrew some money and paid the customs duty. Claire was going through customs control near the gate as suddenly something beeped at the last control frame. She was asked to remove her belt. So she took off her belt and ran down the long slippery corridor to the plane. She was holding tickets in her mouth, the belt (she hadn't had time to put it on) in her right hand and the jeans in her left hand. And also she was shouting in all the languages she knew: «Please wait!» As soon as Claire ran through the door just before taking off, it slammed behind her.
That was Claire's incredible holiday and also an unforgettable way back home! Although she was really exhausted after such a trip, she likes to talk about it and says it was her best adventure ever.
Sometimes holiday may turn into an exciting adventure.
