Crimes can be committed by different people. Some do it for [ ] and for their benefit. To punish such violations and [ ], there are independent courts and internal affairs bodies such as the police around the world. But sometimes the investigation is mistaken and the sentences are passed not on real violators of the law, but [ ].

Such a story happened to William Sydney Porter who is known all over the world as O. Henry. After getting married and having a child, Porter got a job at a bank [ ]. It was a private bank and was founded by rich yet dishonest people. In this bank, no documentation was kept and the accounting department barely even worked. Bank owners could simply come and [ ] at the end of the working day and not report on their use. But Porter worked there because he needed to [ ] and did not ask unnecessary questions. In general, he did not like working at the bank. He was bored there, and all day long he entertained himself by writing short humorous stories about his colleagues or bank clients.

William Porter left the bank after three years of work due to a scandal. The owners of the bank [ ], but no one sued him, and confined themselves to dismissal. Then Porter with his wife and daughter moved to Houston where he had already begun his literary career. At this time, [ ] the bank's files and found a shortage in the cashier's office for a large sum. The charge fell on Porter. His father-in-law paid bail for the delay and paid the money lost by the bank so that Porter did not end up in jail. However, this did not help and William was sentenced to prison anyway.

Then he decided to flee to Central America where everyone used to hide from persecution. He [ ] to his wife's parents. Then the family [ ], but this did not happen, as Mrs Porter became very sick. Upon hearing of her impending death, Porter returned to the United States in 1897, knowing that he would fall into the police hands. He was not arrested until his wife died six months later. Since there have never been any documents about the work of the bank, we will not be able to find out [ ] in this story. However, we know for sure that prison did not break the spirit of the writer and did not prevent him from becoming one of the most famous writers in the United States.
