Schools in Finland

Schools in Finland are different from Russian schools.

The school year starts in August. A typical day in comprehensive school begins at 9 in the morning. Students usually have six or seven lessons every day. After every class, there is a break for 10 or 15 minutes. There is a long break between classes when students have lunch in the school canteen. The lunch is the same for everyone. After the lunch break, students go back to their studies until 2 or 3 p.m. The subjects are the same as in Russia: Literature, History, Mathematics, Science, English, Finnish and many more. English is not the only foreign language students study in Finland. In some schools, children study Russian or Swedish. Some schools even offer four languages! Students also have a lot of practical lessons where they learn how to plant flowers, feed animals or cook.

Students in Finland don't wear uniforms. They can wear what they want. Pupils more often prefer sports clothes because they can go outside during the school day to do some sports.

Everybody is friendly in Finnish schools. Teachers and students greet each other saying "Hello", pupils call their teachers by their first names.
