Everyone knows the name of Sir Isaac Newton, one of the greatest scientists. Newton was an English physicist and mathematician. He was born in 1642 in Lincolnshire, England. Newton's father had died three months before his son was born. His mother married another man and went to live with her new husband. Newton had to stay with his grandmother.
Newton had great skills in building machines. He went to grammar school and then studied natural science and mathematics at Cambridge University. At the university, Newton got interested in the works of mechanical philosophers.
Between the ages of 22 and 24, Newton made his greatest discoveries in mathematics, optics, and mechanics, such as the nature of white light and the law of gravitation. The idea of the law of gravitation came to Newton in his garden as he was watching the fall of an apple. This observation led to a great scientific discovery.
Newton never married, and the only people who lived with him were his niece and her husband. Newton died in 1727 in London at the age of 84. He was buried in Westminster Abbey.
