An archaeological complex was opened in Pompeii.

Pompeii is a unique Italian city with a tragic history known around the world. There you can stroll through the ancient ruins and get acquainted with the life of the Italians of the 6th century BC. Now you can see even more in the city: an archaeological complex was opened for visitors.

The Antiquarium displays an exhibition reflecting the daily life of people before the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 BC. Visitors will see the remains of frescoed urban villas, household items (silver spoons and bronze heaters), and examples of street graffiti. The complex has a separate room with deformed by lava household items and remains of people and animals.

"The last room dedicated to the eruption of Vesuvius is special for me. Here you can feel the incredible drama that happened about 2,000 years ago," stated Massimo Ossana, director of Pompeii archaeological park.

Since its opening in 1873, the museum has housed archaeological excavations. However, during the Second World War, the museum was damaged. The destruction continued in 1980 during the Naples earthquake, after that the museum was closed. And 40 years later the archaeological complex was reopened to the public.
