Read the text about Inca culture and answer the questions below.
A unique example of the Inca’s impressive stonework is Machu Picchu. It is made up of around two hundred buildings, ranging from temples to baths. Most of these buildings were built using a technique called ashlar, where the stone blocks were cut to fit together without the use of mortar. These stones were cut with such accuracy and fit together so precisely that even a piece of paper can't be placed between them. This building style has an almost mysterious engineering benefit. Machu Picchu is built on top of two fault lines in a seismically active zone. During earthquakes, the stones are said to "dance" — they move around but fall back into their original position once the tremors stop. Despite many of the stones weighing over twenty kilograms, the Inca didn't use any wheeled machines to transport them. Instead, hundreds of men pushed the heavy stones up the mountain.
Another impressive feat of engineering is Qorikancha, which is located in the former capital of Cusco. The puma-shaped city contains the most important temple in the Inca world: the Temple of the Sun. This temple was so sacred that some of its walls were covered with seven hundred gold sheets, each weighing two kilograms. Most of them were melted later and sent to Spain. What is more, the temple was destroyed by the Spanish invaders who made the city their property. They built a Catholic cathedral on the site, leaving only the Inca's stone foundations preserved. Hundreds of years later, an earthquake struck the city, severely damaging the cathedral but leaving the foundations still standing. Thus, they became a symbol of the Inca's incomparable engineering skills.
