Mike: Morning, Jane. What are you so excited about?
Jane: Hey, Mike! Nice to see you here. I've just received an important email. It says I've won a grant and I'm going to a surfing summer school for free!
Mike: Oh my! That sounds amazing! Congratulations!
Jane: Thank you! I still can't believe it's true.
Mike: How did you do that? I mean, the grant. Was there a competition or something?
Jane: Oh yes, there was one last week. I found the information about it accidentally on the website extremesportsgrants.com. First, it was required to fill in a form, you know, just some information about each candidate. Next step was to upload a 10-minute video showing the candidate's level in surfing. And, finally, a motivation letter, describing why this particular candidate should be chosen.
Mike: Wow, that's a little bit complicated … Did you have a nice video?
Jane: Nope, I wouldn't say so! Actually, I'd rather say it was quite bad, because in the video I fell off my surfing board twice ... On the other hand, it showed how big my desire to learn was.
Mike: I guess this is what really matters in any sport. If a person really wants to master something, they will do anything that's needed and succeed.
Jane: Totally agree. I expressed this thought in my letter. Probably that's the reason they chose me.
Mike: I'm sure you deserve it! And you'll become a professional surfer one day!
Jane: I hope so! Thank you for believing in me.
Mike: Don't mention it. That's what friends are needed for!
Jane: Yeah, you're right. By the way, how is your preparation going? I heard you're going to take part in the swimming competition on Friday.
Mike: Did you mean the one on Saturday?
Jane: Oh, of course. Sorry, I mixed it all up. How is your preparation for the competition on Saturday?
Mike: Not as good as I expected. I thought I'd have more time for my training, but in fact I had just a little time.
Jane: Why so? Did anything happen?
Mike: Not really, everything is alright. I just had a couple of urgent projects at college, so I spent a lot of time doing them. That's why I had to decrease my training time. However, I feel my muscles better now. Maybe some rest was needed, as I trained almost every day previously.
Jane: Absolutely! Your body needs to rest, especially if you have an intensive training plan.
Mike: Yes, that's exactly what my coach said!
