"Gulliver's Travels" consist of four parts that describe the main character Lemuel Gulliver, a marine surgeon, his make-believe adventures, and things that become him during his journeys.
In the first part, Gulliver's vessel gets into a violent storm which results in a shipwreck. Gulliver finds himself the only ship crew member alive. Soaking wet and bound, he is surrounded by tiny people called Lilliput. He trusts himself their mercy and lets them examine him, provide him with food, and move him to the Emperor's temple.
The citizens employ him as a war machine in order to get clear their enemy Blefuscu. When he refuses to enlarge their empire, he is sentenced to be blinded. Luckily, Gulliver manages to get using his advantage in size and strength.
The political satire here lies in the fact that miniature Lilliputians are warlike and disputatious, ignorant of their obvious disadvantages likewise. Jonathan Swift contrasts vicious and small-minded politicians to a truly moral, big-hearted person represented by his main character.
