Urban Exploration

Underwhelming tourist attractions and popular historical places including world cultural heritage sites no longer keep young people's minds. These days, no matter what place a person wants to see, they go online and search for necessary locations. The pictures are usually much more stunning than those places look in real life. The question of why to go sightseeing among not yet beautiful places which everyone can find on the Internet has aroused a lot of discussions and trendy activities.

The proportion of adolescents who regularly take part in adventurous activities which get the adrenalin going has been growing all over the world. They choose truly abandoned zones to discover instead of breathtaking and well-known ones. The exploration of urban environments is a hobby that has become more popular in recent years. The movement has grown into an extensive network that includes teenagers up to the elderly.

The culture of urban exploration is mostly male, with genuinely adventurous and courageous participants. Urban exploration is international, with groups around the world with various motives and methods. However, they have something in common. Urban explorers enter lands and properties which are unseen by the general public. At a time when most tourists are keen on visiting remarkable places of interest with unique architecture and rich history, urban explorers desperately seek overlooked and undervalued factories and hospitals, former military installations, bunkers, bridges, sewers, drains, utility or transit tunnels.

They are curious about discovering something gone clean out of citizens' minds, ancient and photographable. The fact is that taking photos is an indispensable part of any urban explorer tour. However, one should be aware of photographing people because it's required to get their permission. Urban exploration can be a very dangerous recreation activity, too. Thrill-seekers face numerous obstacles and dangers: the possibility of a roof or floor collapse, broken glass, guard dogs, homeless people, motion sensors, chemicals and other harmful substances. They encounter other threats and accidents in their travels. Scrapes, cuts and bruises are not infrequent. The explorers have to wear helmets, climbing gear, respirators, gloves.

To find a great location to explore adventurers do much research and go through various websites. The information about utility tunnels, sewer systems and storm drains maps is accessible online. Another way to consider is to go to the local library to discover the city archives. Finally, everyone with a vague idea of how to start should visit blogs and urban exploration forums to find exciting locations. On the Internet, bloggers and explorers' identities are disguised with pseudonyms.

The most attention-grabbing places to explore are those that are left by the people who owned or used them and deserted or located on public land. People who want to be acquainted with the experience of life have to follow certain rules and be prepared for the possible consequences of their actions. The exact laws on trespassing and associated punishments vary widely between countries. As for the rules, every urban explorer should avoid sites that are marked with prohibit signs and explore and take photos without even a thought of stealing or vandalising.
