Six wives of Henry VIII
As they say, "The King can do anything." The English King Henry Tudor the 8th wanted to marry and divorce whenever he wished.
It all started with his obsession with the heir. His first wife Catherine, the daughter of the Spanish kings, could not give birth to a boy for him. Although she was pregnant several times. But children died before they were born. Only Mary survived, in the future she should become Bloody Mary.
The King understood that something had to be done about it. But the marriage was approved by the Pope himself, and only he could allow the divorce. The Pope refused the divorce, and then the King forced everyone to abandon the Roman Catholic Church. The era of separation of the church and the beginning of the line of the Anglican Church has come, in which the king was considered a God and could make any decision without anyone. He was God's vicar on Earth and his word was law. As a result, Catherine was sent to a monastery and Henry married again.
The King's second wife was Anne Boleyn. The love of the King and Anna was passionate, but she gave birth only to a girl. By the way, Elizabeth the First, but then Henry considered it a blunder. There were no other children in their family. Anna could not get pregnant, and the King lost interest in her. Later, he accused her of treason and executed her.
It is believed that Henry's most beloved wife was Jane. She managed to give her husband a boy, Edward, who died at an early age after the death of Henry himself. But Jane died in childbirth.
Henry decided to get married for the fourth time and chose a girl from Germany for this. It was supposed to seal the union of the two states. The King did not see his chosen one in person, only in a portrait. When they met, she did not seem beautiful to him. The marriage lasted only six months. And it happened mutually and without scandals.
The fifth wife Catherine turned out to be very young, which won the king's heart. But their relationship didn't last either. Like her cousin Anna, she was executed for treason. Although in this case, the charges were justified.
With three children, Henry entered into the most peaceful marriage of his life. He chose a widow, another Catherine, who was more his friend than his wife. They ruled together and made important political decisions. She was smart and fair. She loved his children. Catherine even outlived Henry.
Despite such a number of wives, Henry and his line ended when Edward died of an unknown illness at 15.
Both of Henry's daughters managed to visit the throne, but no one could overshadow the triumph of his youngest daughter Elizabeth.
The phenomenon of polygamy somehow distracted attention from Henry's achievements in the military and political sphere, and many people know him primarily for his flighty nature and inconstancy in love.
