Djoser
Founder of the Third Dynasty, Djoser was the first Egyptian monarch to use a pyramid. Djoser 19.___________(INHERIT) the throne from 20.___________(HE) father Khasekhemwy and ruled Egypt for around three decades. Like his father, Djoser was fond of architecture and construction, and soon set about adding his own monuments to the Egyptian landscape. His most famous construction was the Pyramid of Djoser, a large necropolis 21.___________(CONSIST) of statues, pillars and other decorations, all centred around a six-tiered step pyramid. Prior to this, pharaohs 22.___________(BURY) in rectangular, flat-roofed tombs known as mastabas. It was Egypt's first true pyramid.
The Inca fort
The Inca Empire had a huge territory. The task of securing this empire, which the Inca 23.___________(THEY) called "Tawantinsuyu", was a formidable one. Ruling from their capital city of Cusco, the Inca relied on a system of fortifications to control their vast domain. Among the most important fortresses protecting the core Inca lands was the one that stood at Sacsayhuamán. Said to have been built at the insistence of the 24.___________(NINE) Inca ruler, Pachacuti, it was most likely the biggest of the Inca forts. It lay in close proximity to Cusco, and was constructed of large, cyclopean stones. The Spaniards who conquered the Inca Empire in the 16th century were impressed by it.
