A. Social media, when it first began, did not look like what it is now. It started in the 1990s with AOL chat rooms and some Internet message boards, and then websites like SixDegrees and Friendster appeared. That was when for the first time people could make a profile and find others with the same interests as them. However, by the 2000s, social media evolved with the new generation of websites. Some popular social networks we use now started in this decade. This was the beginning of the phenomenon of interacting with one another online.

B. Currently, TikTok, YouTube, and Snapchat are among the top social media platforms. These sites are well-used for good reason; they allow users to share stories on their timelines, add their thoughts with comments, post and watch videos and admire photographs. Social media users enjoy easy access and platforms that are easy to use, they also notify people when their connections are online.

C. There are many activities users of social media can do, and these are sometimes the main reasons why people access the Internet in the first place. One of the main reasons why people use social media is to keep in touch with their family and friends. When someone is on their social media page, they can get an update about their friends and family, chat and share files, promote their business, and even find a new job. Most social media websites offer all these functions and more; some even allow voice and video calling.

D. Many people now get their news from social media, as well as getting the latest funny jokes and humour content. A lot of users will log into their pages because they are bored and have time to waste scrolling their feeds or sharing their art and personal thoughts on their own blog posts.

E. Social media allows its users to become active participants in the hobbies and issues they are passionate about. People are not only finding like-minded people to enjoy their favourite things with but also, they are helping charities and generating their own news. People on social media are strong community members who help stop crime and organise events for their favourite things.

F. An addiction to social media looks similar to other psychological addictions. People who are addicted have an uncontrollable urge to get online and check their profiles and feeds. This harms the user's life, they will suffer withdrawal if they cannot get access to their pages, and their mood will change. People should have activities in real life and limit their online use to prevent addiction to social media.
