Open to revise the rule
We use ordinal numbers to order different things, people, events, etc. It means that the event/person/thing takes a specific place.
Look at the picture and write the correct numbers
Example: Prince William is the second in line to the British throne.
Formation
Put article "the" before ordinal numbers.
For numbers 1–10 add -th:
- six — the sixth;
- eleven — the eleventh.
Mind the exceptions:
- one — the first;
- two — the second;
- three — the third;
- five — the fifth;
- eight — the eighth;
- nine — the ninth;
- twelve — the twelfth.
If the ordinal number is compound (for example, 26, 44 and others), you need to changethe second number only:
- twenty-six — the twenty-sixth;
- forty-four — the forty-fourth.
- Jasmine: I should be [ ]
in line. I'm shorter than Charlie, but I'm taller than everyone else. - Charlie: I'm the tallest in my class, so I should stand on [ ]
place. - Ann: I can't stand here because I'm not taller than Charlie and Jasmine. I'm [ ]
in line. - Ben: I'm the shortest in my class, so I'm usually on [ ]
place in the line. - Claire: I'm very short, too. But I'm a bit taller than Ben. I should be [ ].
