Homeless Shelter
Journalist: Hello, my name is Matthew, I am a journalist for the Vesti newspaper of Michigan. Can I ask a few questions about your activities?
Volunteer: Is this your first time at our shelter? I am ready to answer your questions.
Journalist: Who lives in your shelter?
Volunteer: These are mostly homeless people, pensioners abandoned by relatives. We give shelter to women with children, people who have lost their memory, documents and money.
Journalist: What is your main help?
Volunteer: We provide food and a bed for everyone who needs it. As for the homeless, we contact their relatives, in case someone is ready to take care of them.
Journalist: And how are the results?
Volunteer: This is a big problem, no one needs homeless people, even their relatives.
Journalist: Why do you think that is?
Volunteer: Many of them suffer from drug addiction, it is necessary to treat them.
Journalist: Does the shelter provide medical care?
Volunteer: Specialists come to us once a week. Narcologist, psychologist, paediatrician, dentist, therapist. If something is serious, the patient is sent to the hospital.
Journalist: What other important problems of the homeless are there?
Volunteer: Due to the fact that many of them sleep on the street, many have frostbitten limbs. This leads to gangrene.
Journalist: Many of them are not hired, what is their way out then?
Volunteer: I think that while they are in the shelter, they can recover, after that we try to help them find a job, the simplest ones.
Journalist: This is a good idea. What prospects of the shelter do you see in the future?
Volunteer: To help people see hope for a better future. In financial terms, we hope for financial support from the state. The shelter is mainly supported by volunteers and donations.
Journalist: Thank you for your time!
Volunteer: I'm always happy to help.
