Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a famous children's book written by novelist Roald Dahl, was first published in 1964. Within just a few years the book became tremendously popular among children and parents due to its witty characters and strong educational message.
The story is set on the outskirts of an old town and describes the life of a poverty-stricken family of a small boy named Charlie Bucket. Every day the boy passes the biggest chocolate factory in the world, run by its mysterious owner, Willy Wonka. Charlie likes chocolate very much but gets a bar of chocolate on his birthday once a year. One day, Willy Wonka announces that in five of his chocolate bars there are \(5\) golden tickets. Those who find tickets will be awarded with a tour to the factory and a lifetime supply of Wonka products for each child. Luckily, Charlie finds the hidden ticket and approaches the factory together with the other \(5\) winners. And here the adventures begin…
The book is a literary masterpiece. Through unexpected plot twists, Dahl reveals the strong sense of natural justice in children and invites them to live in an imagined world where people, both good and bad, get exactly what they deserve. The atmosphere of the book is fantastic, making the reader absorbed by its vivid descriptions and colourful details.
I highly recommend reading this marvellous book. The world of Willy Wonka won't leave anyone cold because it shows what is right and what is wrong and gives much food for thought. This is the author's best book so far and it will certainly become one of the family's favourites.
